A Personal Journal

This insightful journal is written in first person by an able bodied female who is currently dating a man with a spinal cord injury. She has written a nine page personal journal, addressing their relationship. She discusses what it is like dating a man with a disability, and how the disability affects their relationship both negatively and positively. She writes of her initial thoughts and feeling about being in a relationship with a disabled man, and how her thoughts and feelings have evolved over time. She talks about their experiences in public, and how their relationship is viewed by others. She writes about being together sexually, and how this experience is both similar and different from sexual relationships with an able bodied man.

This journal is written in a straightforward, open and honest manner. It is a wonderful tool in helping to give the disabled and non-disabled insight into issues surrounding disabilities. More important, it helps to address and dissolve myths and stereotypes regarding issues of dating, relationships and sexuality.
